Garden of Delights

 Hedonism is a philosophy of life that posits we should seek pleasure and distance ourselves from pain. Epicureanism—a specific form of hedonism—argues that such pleasure should not be pursued through excess, but rather through moderation. Seeking pleasure to an excessive degree leads to an emptying of meaning, rendering life dull and purposeless—a path that can ultimately lead an individual to ruin. This is the complete opposite of what Epicureanism proposes. Following this line of reasoning, one can conclude that a sound way of living may be found in a routine centered on manual activity, where tasks are performed with pleasure. Here, an individual’s focus is directed toward a positive disposition, cultivated through the disciplined guidance of one’s thoughts, physical practices, proper nutrition, and personal development. Since anything done repeatedly becomes a habit, and—following Aristotle’s line of thought—every habit leads toward *aretē* (excellence) and *virtū* (virtue), an individual can, through the pursuit of perfectibility, elevate themselves to the highest possible degree of personal development.

 O Hedonismo é uma filosofia de vida que postula que devemos buscar o prazer e nos distanciar da dor, o Epicurismo vai na via de que tal prazer deve ser buscado não através dos excessos e sim através da moderação, pois quando se busca o o prazer de forma exacerbada, gera-se um esvaziamento de sentido, tornando a vida sem graça e sem propósito que pode levar um indivíduo à ruína, que é o completo oposto do proposto pelo Epicurismo em seu Hedonismo, ao fazer uma ponte com tal raciocínio nota-se que uma boa forma de existir pode se dar através de uma rotina pautada em uma vida manual, onde os afazeres são feitos com prazer, onde todo o foco do indivíduo se inclina para uma boa disposição gerada através do direcionamento correto e disciplinado dos pensamentos, das praticas físicas, da boa alimentação e da formação do indivíduo, pois tudo àquilo que se é feito repetidamente, se torna um Hábito e seguindo a linha de raciocínio do Aristóteles, todo Hábito leva a Aretê e a Virtú que é onde, através da perfectibilidade um indivíduo pode elervar-se ao seu mais alto grau de desenvolvimento como pessoa.

Mob Psycho 100 and Purity of Spirit

 

The story centers on the protagonist Shigeo—nicknamed "Mob"—who appears to be an ordinary boy. However, the anime takes place in a world where spirits unexpectedly manifest in various situations, and Mob has the ability to see, hear, and even touch them. As a child, he suffered an accident that caused him to lose control; using his telekinesis (the ability to move objects with the mind), he ended up injuring his brother. Consequently, he began suppressing his powers to avoid hurting those around him. Yet, this suppression came with a side effect: whenever he reaches his limit (100%), the emotion he is feeling at the moment completely takes over, causing him to act "irrationally" under its sway—whether the emotion is positive, like love or kindness, or negative, like anger or frustration. 

However, Mob's most interesting trait is his inability to see the bad side of people in absolutely any situation. Because he is incredibly powerful and virtually invulnerable, he tends to trust others and focus on their positive qualities—even when it seems obvious they are lying. A prime example is his occult mentor, Reigen, a charlatan who makes a living performing spiritual services for people often struggling with unrelated issues; Reigen would help them simply to keep the money coming in. This routine began to change, however, when he met Mob—a genuine psychic capable of solving real problems.

The protagonist's genuine ability to see the good in people is truly striking; it is precisely this trait that allows him to overcome the traumas stemming from his overwhelming powers. Despite being worshipped by others, he never exploited his fame; instead, he simply went about his life, helping everyone he crossed paths with. Through these interactions, he learned to become a better person—not merely a powerful one, but simply a human being.

Over time, he realized that it was not his powers that made him special, but rather his capacity to strengthen bonds with those around him. Despite possessing telekinesis, he joined a fitness club to improve his physique; despite being a psychic, he participated in an occult club where members understood nothing about the subject—and some weren't even interested; despite his immense power, he remained incredibly humble. These contradictions made him not only unique but also a person of pure character.
